Day 10: Unraveling the CAT-W

  1. Dissecting "The Dangers of Reality TV" HERE
  2. Understanding how your responses are scored (page 23 of the packet) 
  3. Returning CAT Practice 1; calculate your total score by adding the five scores. For example: 2 (3+4) + 2(4+4) + 2(3+2) + 3+ 4 + 4+ 4= 55
  4. General problems with this CAT-W:
    • No original claim/reasons; your claim/reasons were a copy of Sexton's
    • The response focused on more than ONE significant idea
    • The response shifts from the reading's topic (reality tv) to something else (television in general, ads, movies...)
    • Very little concrete evidence
    • Introductory sentence was ungrammatical:
                        In "The Dangers of Reality TV" by Timothy Sexton explains....
