Day 12: Unraveling the CAT

1. Discussing:
  • "The Dangers of Reality TV" HERE
  • The Truman Show Syndrome HERE
  • Reality TV: Rewarding Bad Behavior HERE
2. Returning CAT Practice 1; calculate your total score by adding the five scores. For example: 2 (3+4) + 2(4+4) + 2(3+2) + 3+ 4 + 4+ 4= 55

3. Understanding how your responses are scored (page 25 of the packet) 

4. General problems with this CAT-W:
    • No original claim/reasons
    • The response shifts from the reading's topic (reality tv) to something else (television in general, ads, movies...)
    • Very little concrete evidence
    • Introductory sentence was ungrammatical:
                        In "The Dangers of Reality TV" by Timothy Sexton explains....
