Lab 5 (4/13)

Today you will choose two outstanding outlines for "Kid Kustomers" from your classmates' responses and explain why you think they are good using evidence from the actual outline.

Then you will evaluate how YOUR outline compares to the rest of the outlines in the class.

I. Choosing Two Outlines
  1. Check the questions below point #3 to get you thinking about the elements of outlines.
  2. Read all the outlines in a row, making notes as you go along.
  3. Now choose TWO that you believe would work well as a response to "Kid Kustomers." (No, you cannot pick yours--you are evaluating your classmates at this point). For a copy of "Kid Kustomers," click HERE.
  • Do you consider the idea chosen by your classmate as significant? Why? Why not?
  • Is the claim/thesis responding to the idea clear or somewhat confusing? Why?
  • Does the writer give at least two reasons for her claim? In your opinion, are the reasons clear and logical (as in, do they follow the claim or do they go off topic)? Why?
  • Does the writer have at least one example/fact per reason? In your opinion, is each example clear, logical, and does it expand its corresponding reason? Why? Why not?
II. Your Outline
Now consider where your outline stands with respect to everyone else's in the class.
  • Is it one of the better ones or is it just so-so? Why? (Consider the questions above for framing your answer)
  • Is there something you could modify to make it better?
  • Did you notice anything in someone else's outline that you could use in yours?
